The small, lower floor, utility room is fully tiled, with plenty of cupboards and power points.
There is a sink with double drainer and room for a 2nd freezer, a tumble dryer, spinner and washing machine, which can free up valuable space in the kitchen and keeps the laundry seperate from the rest of the house.
In addition, the drying line is just outside the utility room door and so carrying washing is kept to a minimum. The drying line is positioned where there is maximum funnelling of the available wind, and therefore the clothes dry very quickly.
A row of cupboards all around the utility serves as a useful secondary food storage area, so you can stock up on tins and packets when they are on offer at the supermarket, and save yourself a lot of money on the food bill. It also reduces the need to shop so regularly. We only shop once a month now, with odd days for fresh stuff like vegetables and fruit.
The room is tiled, floor to ceiling, making the area very easy to clean. I found an antique enamelled metal backsplash at a reclamation centre and put it behind the sink. If you don't like it, I have enough spare tiles for you to replace it.
There is also a chemistry lab type tap (the black up and over one) which is useful for cleaning bottles. I used to make home made wine and it was a godsend for cleaning demi-johns and wine bottles. Now we use it to clean the vegetables and fruit that come out of the garden, like onions, potatoes and cabbage.
