The Lounge
The lounge is 12' x 12' and continuous with the dining area/office. This is a dual aspect room with one aspect being a fully glazed door leading out to the balcony.

The room is lavishly adorned with oak, including mantle piece, window sills, door lintel and useful drawer storage.

Fireplace: Has a mains gas fire and a marble hearth. Around the fire are flowered tiles and a cast-iron surround.
Shortly after installing it, I saw the exact same fire surround on the Antiques Roadshow, I think around 2005. They valued it at a wonderful 3000.

Ceiling Fan: Another one of my crazy ideas was to put a ceiling fan in the central light area. This has been invaluable in the summer when you want to cool down, or cool the room down quickly. It is a high quality, 3 speed, Fantasia and is whisper quiet.

The view through the door glass shows the balcony and the valley below, across the lake and the hills beyond. Unfortunately, it was raining when I took this picture.

The central light can be left off and a variety of mood light options can be obtained using one or more of the six wall lights, two of which are picture lights, so that you can hang a painting or photo under them.

There are no skirting boards as such, as I used a row of tiles around the perimiter of the room in place of wood. As there is no painting tiles are maintenance free.

You can clearly see the flower tiles around the fireplace, which most people find very attractive, if they choose to comment on them at all.
